To determine whether or not a child qualifies for a wish, it is necessary to share criteria about what a life-threatening medical condition is. In this section, you can find the current version of the Medical List. We also included the Interactive Medical Guide with descriptions of medical conditions and the Eligibility Guidance Sheets which can be used for communication with hospitals.
The guiding principle for determining whether a child qualifies for a wish is whether the illness/medical condition, at the time of the referral to Make-A-Wish, constitutes a life-threatening state. The purpose of this list is to provide a guideline of illnesses and conditions that may qualify a child for a wish. Amended in 2011; this is still the current version in 2016.
This Interactive Medical Guide is for internal use and distinguishes between two levels:
Level 1: medical conditions of which an affiliate can assume that the condition is life-threatening. The affiliate may proceed with processing the referral without further clarification.
Level 2: the affiliate will need further information to clarify that the condition is at a life-threatening stage at the time of referral.
These sheets are referral guides for the medical professionals. A more global approach is taken rather than a list. There are seven medical areas described in these sheets. Please remember to amend these sheets with your affiliate contact details before using them.
